比较句式、择比句式等翻译技巧

一、比较句式
比较句式包括平行比较、渐进比较。比如，翻译公司译者常用到的：the more …the more …more … more，(ever) +比较级+ and +比较级（“日益”）
1.The more a man knows, the more he discovers his ignorance.
一个人懂得越多就越发现自己知识的不足。
2.When we are more in danger, we should be more courageous.
越危险就越应该勇敢。
3.Her face has turned ever thinner and paler.
她的脸近来日渐消痩和苍白。
二、择比句式
择比句式指的是在两种选项中选择一个，通常专业翻译公司的译者译为“与其……不如……” “宁可……也不……” “喜欢……不愿……”
1.Better do nothing than do a poor job.
与其干不好，不如不干。
2.I would as soon go boating as play tennis.
我宁可去划船也不愿意去打网球。
3.Sooner than do such thing,I would starve.
我宁愿饿死也不愿做这种事情。
三、介词表示比较
1.表示数量多少、质量优劣、程度高低的比较:above，before，behind，below， beyond，over，under 等。
(1) It is not strange at all that he values wealth above health.
他把财富看得比健康还重要，这一点都不奇怪。
(2)Good advice is beyond price.
好的建议是无价的。
(3)Children under six years old are admitted free.
未满6岁的儿童免费入场。
2 表示对比、对照：beside，against，for，to 等。
(1)1 felt so weak and useless beside them.
与他们相比，我感到自己太软弱无用了。
(2)She looks young for her age.
她比实际年龄显得年轻。
(3)245 students have gone to college this year against 150 last year in this school.
该校今年有245名学生上了大学，而去年只有150人。
(4)He is inferior to me in listening comprehension.
他在听力方面比我差。
